Lady Jayhawks lose nailbiter
MCC loses to host Mott 64-65
Friday afternoon the MCC Lady Jayhawks traveled to Mott Community College to play in the Roundball Classic Tournament over the weekend. Their first game lined up was against Mott.
The Lady Jayhawks unfortunately, did not play their best basketball in tonight's game. The scoring was carried by Anna Lundquist (#30) with 25 points and Tyvi Davis (#23) with 24. The Jayhawks failed to have the defensive intensity needed to win a game on the road. The 26-point outburst from Mott in the third quarter really put the Lady Jayhawks in a play from behind mind set. They limped back in the game coming back from 10 points down with three minutes left in the fourth quarter, tying the game at 64, but had a costly foul with 2 seconds to go, allowing the Mott Bears to take a one-point lead after they won 1-2 from the line. Making your final score 64-65 in favor of Mott.
The team had some overall decent stats with Anna Lundquist (#30) having a record 21 rebounds. Remi Sponseller (#12) had 9 rebounds, 6 blocks, 3 assists, and 2 steals. As a whole, the team had a record 56 rebounds.
"We had a tough loss tonight. I want to give credit to Mott on how they played but we didn't bring our "A" game tonight." Said head coach Jason Cooper after the game. "We will have a sour taste in our mouth from the loss over break. I hope we reflect on our play and come back stronger after break".
