Jayhawks Grab Win Over Kirtland, 83-75
Muskegon delivered one of its strongest home performances of the season on Saturday, defeating Kirtland Community College 83–75
February 21, 2026
In a game where the Jayhawks controlled the second half and never allowed the Firebirds to seize momentum. Before the game, the sophomore Jayhawk players were acknowledged for their contributions to the program. Sophomores include Lamarkis Graham, Joel Katembo, and Ny'Zhem Marshall.
Muskegon took a 38–34 lead heading into the break, then steadily widened the margin with improved ball movement, timely shot‑making, and a more disciplined defensive effort. Every Kirtland run was met with a Jayhawk answer, and Muskegon maintained composure down the stretch to close out the win.
The Jayhawks leaned on balanced scoring throughout the afternoon, with multiple players contributing in key stretches as the offense found rhythm. Muskegon also tightened up on the glass and limited Kirtland's second‑chance opportunities, helping preserve the lead as the pace picked up late. The victory moves Muskegon to 11–15 overall and 8–8 in Northern Conference play.
Freshman guard Darryl Thompkins led the charge for Muskegon, scoring 22 points, snagging a game-high 12 rebounds and dishing out nine assists. Freshman forward Kenyae Foley had a great game off the bench, scoring 15 points in just 14 minutes of play. Sophomore forward Joel Katembo added 15 points, five rebounds and two blocks. Sophomore forward Ny'Zhem Marshall added 13 points. Nine rebounds, three steals and two blocks.
Muskegon will play its final game of the regular season next Tuesday, February 24th, when the Jayhawks travel to Petoskey to face North Central Michigan College. Tip‑off is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
