Jayhawks Fall Short To Montcalm
February 11, 2026
Muskegon fell behind early on Wednesday night and couldn't recover, dropping a 79–64 decision to Montcalm at home. The Jayhawks were outscored 48–27 in the first half, a stretch where Montcalm's perimeter shooting and second‑chance opportunities created a gap that proved too difficult to close. Muskegon responded with a much stronger second half, winning the final 20 minutes 37–31, but every push was met with an answer from the Centurions, who controlled the pace and the glass throughout the night.
Darryl Thompkins led the Jayhawks with 18 points, adding seven assists and four rebounds while trying to steady the offense. David Cross knocked down three threes on his way to 15 points, and Lamarkis Graham contributed 13 points along with five assists and five steals, giving Muskegon energy on both ends. Joel Katembo anchored the interior with 13 rebounds, including 11 on the defensive end, while Kenyae Foley added six points and four boards. Off the bench, Ny'Zhem Marshall scored nine points and grabbed five rebounds, and Landyn Smith chipped in eight points and five rebounds in 21 minutes.
Muskegon shot 35.9 percent from the field and 23.3 percent from three, while Montcalm connected on 10 threes and held a 46–36 advantage on the glass. Turnovers also hurt the Jayhawks, who committed 12 giveaways that Montcalm converted into key momentum plays. Despite the improved second‑half effort, the early deficit was too much to overcome. Muskegon moves to 10–13 on the season and 4-6 in conference play.
The Jayhawks hope to improve to 5-6 in Northern Conference play this Saturday against the Bay College Norse in Escanaba. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
