Jayhawks Defend the Nest With Win Over GRCC

Muskegon Community College delivered a strong all-around performance against Grand Rapids Community College on Saturday, earning a 92-78 victory highlighted by balanced scoring, steady ball movement, and an anchored team defense. The Jayhawks controlled the flow of the game by sharing the ball effectively and taking care of possessions, finishing with 22 assists against just five turnovers.
MCC featured five players in double figures, led by Darryl Thompkins, who scored 18 points while adding four rebounds and four assists. David Cross and Lamarkis Graham each contributed 16 points, with Cross also making a major impact defensively by recording five steals. Joel Katembo was highly efficient, scoring 15 points on 7-of-8 shooting, while Ny'Zhem Marshall posted a near triple-double with 15 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists.
The Jayhawks were active both on the glass and with aggressive defense, generating 13 offensive rebounds and forcing an astounding 23 GRCC turnovers to create extra scoring opportunities. MCC's defensive pressure was incessant through both halves of play, forcing turnovers and turning them into transition chances. On offense the Jayhawks shot a solid 82.4 percent from the free-throw line to maintain control late.
The win moves the Jayhawks record to 6-6. Muskegon Community College is next scheduled to play against Owens Community College on January 6th, at Owens Community College (Ohio). Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
