Buchberger's Walk-Off Homer Lifts Jayhawks Past Bay College, 5-4
It came down to the wire on Friday, as Muskegon Community College walked it off with a 5-4 victory over Bay College. With the game tied in the bottom of the seventh, Aidan Buchberger delivered the decisive blow—a solo home run to left field to seal the win for the Jayhawks.
The bottom of the lineup stepped up in a big way, as Carter Hughes, Gabe Shooltz, and Buchberger combined for five of Muskegon's nine hits. Together, they scored a run and drove in one.
Muskegon jumped out to a 3-2 lead in the first inning. Brock Thornton grounded out to drive in a run, followed by a two-RBI single from Bryce Luevano. In the sixth, Hughes singled to give the Jayhawks a 4-3 lead before Bay College tied it in the top of the seventh—setting the stage for Buchberger's walk-off heroics.
Koby Windeler and Noah Morgan each pitched in relief to help secure the win.
Hughes and Buchberger both notched two hits, while Luevano led the team with two RBIs. The Jayhawks played clean defensively, committing no errors. Thornton anchored the defense with seven putouts.
